boulderbar St. Pölten grades, explained

boulderbar St. Pölten opened on 3 August 2024 in a hall of the former Glanzstoff factory, about 15 minutes' walk from St. Pölten station. It has about 1,000 m² of floor space and climbing surface, walls up to 4.5 m, a 16×12 Kilter Board (the first of that size in Austria), a kids' bouldering area with a slide and cave, a training area and a bar. Some boulders have extra holds for children and shorter climbers.

Bouldering grades

Each boulder uses holds of a single colour. The start holds carry signs that show the grade on a Fontainebleau-based scale: 3, 4A, 4B, 4C, 5A … 8A+, 8B. Boulders marked '?' instead of a grade involve unusual movement that is hard to grade. The gym suggests beginners start on boulders marked 4.
