boulderbar Salzburg grades, explained

boulderbar Salzburg opened in 2016 on Richard-Kürth-Straße in Salzburg. It has more than 1,800 m² of bouldering surface and a 300 m² panorama bar, a Moonboard on the second floor, a gallery training area overlooking the walls, and a kids' area with about 70 boulders for children from age 3.

Bouldering grades

Each boulder uses holds of a single colour. The start holds carry signs that show the grade on a Fontainebleau-based scale: 3, 4A, 4B, 4C, 5A … 8A+, 8B. Boulders marked '?' instead of a grade involve unusual movement that is hard to grade. The gym suggests beginners start on boulders marked 4.
