boulderbar Hauptbahnhof is a bouldering gym on Maria-Lassnig-Straße in Vienna's 10th district (Favoriten), near the main railway station. It belongs to the boulderbar chain, which has four Vienna halls (Hannovergasse, Hauptbahnhof, Seestadt, Wienerberg) and gyms in Salzburg, Linz and St. Pölten. The hall has about 1,100 m² of floor space, about 1,300 m² of climbing surface plus about 200 m² outdoors, walls up to 4.5 m, and two Kilter boards.
Bouldering grades
Each boulder uses holds of a single colour. The start holds carry signs that show the grade on a Fontainebleau-based scale: 3, 4A, 4B, 4C, 5A … 8A+, 8B. Boulders marked '?' instead of a grade involve unusual movement that is hard to grade. The gym suggests beginners start on boulders marked 4.
