boulderbar Linz grades, explained
boulderbar Linz opened in 2023 on Dr. Hermann-Thurner-Straße in Leonding, a town bordering Linz. boulderbar calls it probably Austria's largest bouldering gym: more than 2,100 m² of climbing surface plus a 400 m² outdoor bouldering area, kids' areas on two floors, a Kilter Board and a Moonboard, a training area with a separate yoga room, and a panorama bar with a roof terrace. The boulderbar Hotel is in the same building.
Bouldering grades
Each boulder uses holds of a single colour. The start holds carry signs that show the grade on a Fontainebleau-based scale: 3, 4A, 4B, 4C, 5A … 8A+, 8B. Boulders marked '?' instead of a grade involve unusual movement that is hard to grade. The gym suggests beginners start on boulders marked 4.
