boulderbar Hannovergasse grades, explained

boulderbar Hannovergasse is the chain's first hall, opened in 2012 in a courtyard on Hannovergasse in Vienna's 20th district (Brigittenau). It has about 1,200 m² of floor space and about 1,300 m² of climbing surface, including about 120 m² outdoors, walls up to 4.5 m, a 7×10 Kilter Homewall, a large training area and a bar. A free beginner workshop runs on Mondays (included with entry, ages 14+).

Bouldering grades

Each boulder uses holds of a single colour. The start holds carry signs that show the grade on a Fontainebleau-based scale: 3, 4A, 4B, 4C, 5A … 8A+, 8B. Boulders marked '?' instead of a grade involve unusual movement that is hard to grade. The gym suggests beginners start on boulders marked 4.
