Kletterhalle Wien grades, explained

Kletterhalle Wien is a rope-climbing and bouldering centre on Erzherzog-Karl-Straße in Vienna's 22nd district (Donaustadt). It is run by Naturfreunde Wien Kletterhallen GmbH, and in October 2026 it is celebrating 20 years since its first route was climbed. Indoors there are 3,000 m² of rope walls up to 16 m and 500 m² of bouldering; outdoors another 1,000 m² of rope walls (including two 16 m towers) and 400 m² of bouldering. The gym lists over 400 routes for top rope, lead and auto-belay.

Rope climbing grades

Routes are graded on the UIAA scale in Roman numerals, often with half-grades such as VII+/VIII-. The public route list shows a French equivalent next to every UIAA grade, so the gym's own UIAA-to-French conversion can be read directly from it. The levels below show the most common pairing for each UIAA grade across the 403 routes listed on 2026-10-02.
