The Spot Thornton grades, explained
The Spot Thornton was the ROCK'n & JAM'n gym and became part of The Spot in 2023. It has 9,500 sq ft of climbing, including a 40-foot lead wall, 5 auto belays, rope walls with built-in cracks, and bouldering. The upper floors hold a 45° wall, an adjustable spray wall, hangboards, a campus board and fitness equipment.
Bouldering grades
The Spot uses its own 'Spot Scale': each problem is marked with 1 to 5 red spots, with + and - to split levels further. 1 spot is the easiest (about VB) and 5+ the hardest (about V11). The gym gives an official V-grade conversion.
