The Spot Boulder grades, explained
The Spot Boulder is a bouldering gym in Boulder, Colorado, and the first gym of The Spot, which now has five gyms around Denver and Boulder. It opened in 2002 (the company calls it the first bouldering gym in the US) and has about 15,000 sq ft of climbing with walls up to 17 feet, including boulders modelled on Fontainebleau, Hueco Tanks and Yosemite. There is no rope climbing here; The Spot's rope walls are at its Louisville and Thornton gyms.
Bouldering grades
The Spot uses its own 'Spot Scale': each problem is marked with 1 to 5 red spots, with + and - to split levels further. 1 spot is the easiest (about VB) and 5+ the hardest (about V11). The gym gives an official V-grade conversion.
