Northern Rocks grades, explained

Northern Rocks is a bouldering gym on Diana Drive in Glenfield, on Auckland's North Shore, run by partners Sarah Hay and John Glaister. It has colour-graded boulders, two top-out boulders (one finishing on the mezzanine), training walls and campus boards, plus yoga, coaching and youth programmes.

Bouldering grades

Boulders are graded by colour in overlapping V-grade bands, from orange (VB–V0) up to white (V7–V12). Northern Rocks lists the bands on its Boulder League page, which refers climbers to the grading chart in the gym. Pink is listed separately with a wide VB–V5 range.
