Boulder Co. Christchurch grades, explained
Boulder Co.'s Christchurch gym is at 179 Blenheim Road in Riccarton. The 1,600 m² building has 700 m² of climate-controlled bouldering wall (about 40% slab and vertical, 30% gentle overhang, 20% steep and 10% roof), a 12×12 Original Kilter Board, a MoonBoard with the 2024 set and a 5 m spray wall. It also has a fitness area, a café and bar, and Boulder Kids, a children's climbing wall and playground with a party room.
Bouldering grades
Every climb carries a number from 1 (easiest) to 8, and each number covers a range of difficulty. Boulder Co.'s grade chart maps the numbers onto V-grades (below) and Font grades (in the notes). A '?' tag marks a mystery grade that can be anything. The chart says grades are indicative only.
