Boulderwelt grades, explained

Boulderwelt was founded in Munich in 2010 by Markus Grünebach and Dave Cato and calls itself Germany's largest owner-run operator of bouldering gyms. It runs eight bouldering halls: three in Munich (Ost, West and Süd) and one each in Frankfurt, Regensburg, Dortmund, Karlsruhe and Hamburg. In January 2022 all halls switched from colour circuits to a shared level system from 1 to 9, each level covering a Font range; hold colour says nothing about difficulty.

Bouldering grades

Boulders are graded in nine levels, 1 (easy) to 9 (very hard). Each level covers a Fontainebleau range. The level number is printed on round cards: two cards mark the start holds and one marks the top. Hold colour says nothing about difficulty. Boulders on the competition wall also get an individual Font grade.

Boulderwelt uses this grading at all its gyms. From the gym's own grading guide. Gyms reset and regrade often, and grades vary between setters, so treat this as a guide and check the boards when you visit.
