Scarpa Drago review: fit, sizing and what climbers say

One of the softest, most sensitive performance shoes made: highly downturned and asymmetric, with sticky XS Grip2 and a rubber-wrapped toe. Built for steep bouldering, comp-style gym climbing and overhanging sport, it suits strong climbers with strong feet. Avoid it for technical edging, cracks or long routes.

Take your street shoe size

For a snug all-round fit, a street UK 9 (EU 43) is a UK 9 (EU 43) in the Drago. Go half a size smaller for hard bouldering, or bigger for long days. It's a starting point: feet differ, so try them on if you can.

How the Drago fits

Medium widthMedium volume
Heel
Thin, precise heel that is good on small and sloping hooks, but several testers and owners found dead space deep in the heel or arch; low-volume feet should look at the Drago LV.
Toe box
Steeply downturned, precise toe wrapped in soft, sticky M50 rubber (SRT) for toe hooks and scumming; can cramp the toes.
Suits
Average to wider feet fit well; narrow feet and narrow heels often feel extra room at the sides and heel.

What climbers say

From independent reviews and buyers' feedback; each point is backed by at least two sources.

Strengths

  • Outstanding sensitivity and smearing on volumes and tiny features
  • Top-tier on steep terrain: the soft flex lets toes grab and pull
  • Excellent toe hooks from the sticky rubber-covered toe
  • Surprisingly comfortable for such an aggressive shape

Watch out for

  • Weak on small edges unless your feet are strong; little support
  • Thin rubber and minimalist build wear quickly for the price
  • Heel and arch can feel baggy on some feet
  • Not for cracks or long routes
Stretch and break-in: The microsuede upper hardly stretches (about 0-0.5 EU size). Most reviewers go half to one size under street size; a full size down means a longer, more painful break-in, but even tight fits mold to the foot after a couple of sessions.
