Scarpa Quantix SF review: fit, sizing and what climbers say

The Quantix SF is a light, mildly downturned double-Velcro all-rounder built around Scarpa's one-piece 'Single Frame' rand and a full-length Vibram XS Grip2 sole. It is at its best on vertical face climbing and long pitches, where precise edging and low foot fatigue matter. It is less suited to heel-hook-heavy bouldering. Scarpa no longer lists it, so expect to find it as leftover or clearance stock.

Take your street shoe size

For a snug all-round fit, a street UK 9 (EU 43) is a UK 9 (EU 43) in the Quantix SF. Go half a size smaller for hard bouldering, or bigger for long days. It's a starting point: feet differ, so try them on if you can.

How the Quantix SF fits

Medium widthMedium volume
Heel
Soft PAF heel that spares the Achilles. It has little rubber on the sides, and one tester struggled with technical heel hooks.
Toe box
Long, fairly pointed toe with the precision point right at the tip, plus an Alcantara big-toe panel. It is excellent on micro edges.
Suits
Average to slightly wide forefeet; GearJunkie calls the last medium-wide. Very wide, high-volume feet may find the toe narrower than most Scarpas, and narrower feet should size down half a size.

What climbers say

From independent reviews and buyers' feedback; each point is backed by at least two sources.

Strengths

  • Exceptional edging precision on micro footholds
  • Light, yet supportive enough for long vertical pitches without tired feet
  • Comfortable almost straight out of the box, with little break-in
  • Versatile from vertical walls to gently overhanging terrain

Watch out for

  • Not very sensitive, and stiff when new; footholds on gym volumes can feel insecure
  • Soft heel with little side rubber, which hurt technical heel hooks for one tester
  • Discontinued, so sizes and colours are limited to leftover stock
Stretch and break-in: Squamish Climbing Magazine found almost no break-in and suggests going half a size down if your foot is narrow; their tester wore their usual Scarpa size. GearJunkie notes a forgiving last with plenty of sideways give from the inset mesh tongue. The microfibre upper won't stretch much in length.
