For a snug all-round fit, a street UK 9 (EU 43) is a UK 8 (EU 42) in the Theory. Go half a size smaller for hard bouldering, or bigger for long days. It's a starting point: feet differ, so try them on if you can.

How the Theory fits

NarrowLow volume

Heel: Low-volume, close heel cup with no spare room; reviewers rate it highly for hooks, but large heels may find it tight.
Toe box: Rubber cap covers most of the toe top; wrapped No-Edge sole follows the foot's contours on volumes.
Suits: Narrow-to-average, low-volume feet and slim heels. Being very soft, it presses less on wider forefeet than stiffer shoes.

Watch out for

Thin rubber wears quickly with heavy gym use
Little support for long routes or sustained edging
Tight, narrow heel and slim profile don't suit big heels or high-volume feet

Stretch and break-in: Leather/microfibre with a rubber-wrapped toe, so it stretches little. La Sportiva suggests 2-4 full EU sizes below street size, and Climbing House found 2-3 sizes down fitted best. One Mont route setter sized several sizes down and found them painful at first before they softened; another chose close to street size for comfort and was happy.
