ROCKY Climbing & Fitness Gym Shinagawa grades, explained

ROCKY runs six large climbing gyms around Tokyo, Chiba and Ibaraki: Shinagawa, Shinjuku Akebonobashi, Ryogoku, Inzai, Tsukuba-Ami and Funabashi. The Shinagawa gym is in the Konan waterfront district, a 5-minute loop-bus ride from Shinagawa Station or a 12-minute walk from Tennozu Isle, with six free parking spaces. It runs kids' and adult schools and does not require reservations.
Bouldering grades
Problems are marked with coloured tape, one colour per Japanese kyu/dan grade, from yellow (10–9級) to black (3段 and up). The colour key below is from a climber's 2017 blog; the gym does not publish it online. Font equivalents use the kyu/Font table on Japanese Wikipedia, not the gym's own conversion.
