B-PUMP Ogikubo grades, explained
B-PUMP 荻窪店
B-PUMP Ogikubo is a bouldering-only gym on the 3rd floor of a building one minute from JR Ogikubo Station in Suginami, Tokyo. Part of the PUMP family of gyms, it traces its origins to 2003 and reopened after renovations in 2007 and 2016; since 2024 it has been operated by 8611 Co., Ltd. It has around 130 problems across named walls (Competition, Bleau, Yosemite, Rocklands, Circuit) and regularly hosts competitions and training camps.
Bouldering grades
Problems use the Japanese kyu/dan scale, written by the gym as 8Q (8級, easiest) to 1Q (1級), then 1D–3D (初段–三段). The gym does not publish a conversion; standard grades below use the kyu/Font/V comparison table on Japanese Wikipedia, which cites climber Dai Koyamada (2009).
