Heavens Gate grades, explained

Heavens Gate is a rope-climbing and bouldering gym in Munich's Werksviertel-Mitte, run by the club IG Klettern M&S e.V. It opened in 1998 in the former potato-flake silos of the old Pfanni factory, making it one of Munich's first climbing gyms, and was renovated and extended between 2017 and 2021. Its best-known feature is the 30 m silos. The gym lists about 170 routes, 160 boulders and 4,500 m² of climbing and bouldering area, including a 19 m outdoor wall.

Rope climbing grades

Routes are graded directly on the UIAA scale in Arabic numerals, including in-between grades such as 6+/7- and 8-/8. The public route database shows each route's setter grade ('VR-Grad') alongside a community grade ('C-Grad'), which is calculated from climbers' ratings.

The gym grades in UIAA directly. Here is the range gyms usually set, in French:

UIAAFrench
44a–4b
54b+–5b
65b+–6a
76a+–6b+
86c+–7a+
97b+–7c+
108a–8b

Look up any grade in UIAA

From the gym's own grading guide. Gyms reset and regrade often, and grades vary between setters, so treat this as a guide and check the boards when you visit.
