Beyond Bouldering Thebarton grades, explained
Beyond Bouldering was started by South Australian climbers and runs three bouldering gyms in Adelaide: Thebarton, Kent Town and Keswick. Thebarton, on Walsh Street, is split into four sectors with one reset each week, and has a 40° MoonBoard 2024 and a Tension Board 2.
Bouldering grades
Difficulty is shown by a coloured tag at the start; hold colour only marks which holds belong to the problem. The tags run on a numbered nine-step scale: 1 orange, 2 aqua, 3 lime, 4 lavender, 5 pink, 6 red, 7 white, 8 black, 9 yellow. A separate 'C' tag marks comp-style climbs. Beyond Bouldering doesn't publish a V-grade for each colour, so these ranges are our estimate. We spread the levels over the usual VB–V10 range in the published order, anchored to its comp categories: pink to white is V3–V6 and white to black is V6+.
