Beyond Bouldering Kent Town grades, explained

Beyond Bouldering's Kent Town gym is at 7 Grenfell Street. It is split into four sectors: one is reset every Wednesday, with about five more boulders added on Thursday. The training area has two 40° MoonBoards (2016 and 2019 sets) and hangboards. The gym closed in early 2026 for a rebuild (a new climbing island, new mats and walkway, new bathrooms and a revamped café) and reopened on 5 March 2026.

Bouldering grades

Difficulty is shown by a coloured tag at the start; hold colour only marks which holds belong to the problem. The tags run on a numbered nine-step scale: 1 orange, 2 aqua, 3 lime, 4 lavender, 5 pink, 6 red, 7 white, 8 black, 9 yellow. A separate 'C' tag marks comp-style climbs. Beyond Bouldering doesn't publish a V-grade for each colour, so these ranges are our estimate. We spread the levels over the usual VB–V10 range in the published order, anchored to its comp categories: pink to white is V3–V6 and white to black is V6+.
