Seoul Forest Climbing grades, explained

서울숲클라이밍

Seoul Forest Climbing (서울숲클라이밍) is a Seoul bouldering chain run by Seoul Forest Climbing Co., Ltd. It began with a small gym near Seoul Forest in Seongsu-dong (since closed; another gym opened in the space in July 2025) and numbers its later gyms: Yeongdeungpo (No. 2), Jamsil (No. 3), Guro (No. 4) and Jongno (No. 5). One membership covers all branches, problems are reset weekly, and difficulty runs through ten colours from pink to black; climbers describe its grading as stiff.

Bouldering grades

Problems are graded by colour in ten steps, from pink (easiest) to black (hardest), the same order at every branch. The gym publishes no V-grades, so the ranges below are an estimate that spreads the ten colours over about VB to V8+, nudged by a few climber comparisons; Korean climbers describe Seoul Forest as grading stiffly.

LevelV-scale≈ Font
핑크 PinkEasiest. One blogger says pink and red problems are rarely seenVB3
빨강 RedVB–V03–4B+
주황 OrangeV04B–4B+
노랑 YellowV0–V14B–5B
초록 GreenV1–V25A–5C
파랑 BlueV2–V35B–6A+
남색 NavyA blogger finds it close to The Climb's red, which a Korean guide puts at V3–V4V3–V45C+–6B+
보라 PurpleA SPIRI7 user says the logging app shows Seoul Forest purple as V4 (felt V5)V4–V56A+–6C+
갈색 BrownV6–V76C+–7B
검정 BlackHardest colour; open-ended≥ V8≥ 7B

Seoul Forest Climbing doesn't say so outright, but its gyms appear to share this grading. Estimated by Gear Loop. The gym publishes only the order of its colours, so these ranges are our best guess from its chart and climbers' descriptions. Gyms reset and regrade often, and grades vary between setters, so treat this as a guide and check the boards when you visit.
