n bouldering grades, explained
n bouldering is an independent bouldering gym on the 24th floor of Success Commercial Building on Hennessy Road, Wan Chai. It was founded by chief route setter Day Leung, who built the walls himself. The gym highlights a 55-degree overhanging wall and city views, and says it puts up fresh sets every 5 weeks.
Bouldering grades
Problems are graded on the gym's own [n] scale: n1 (beginner) to n9, then nx ('Alien') for the hardest climbs. Each grade has its own colour on the official chart, while holds of one colour make up a problem. The gym publishes the order but no conversion, apart from one job ad equating n5 with V4. The V ranges below are an estimate built on that n5 = V4 anchor and spread over about VB to V10.
