Boulders grades, explained

Boulders is a Danish chain of bouldering gyms, founded in August 2009 by Frank Vilstrup and Søren Clausen out of a project called CPH Blocs. Its first hall was in Copenhagen's Sydhavn; it now runs 11 gyms: five in and around Copenhagen, four in Aarhus, one in Odense and one in Aalborg, with a second Odense gym announced for 2027. One membership covers every gym, problems are reset every week, and each gym has an organic café. The chain runs the Blocparty and Climbathon competitions across its gyms.

Bouldering grades

Problems are colour-coded by difficulty in eight overlapping bands: green, yellow, orange, blue, purple, red, black and pink. Boulders publishes a chart translating each colour to a V and a Font range. The V ranges are below and the Font ranges are in the notes. Boulders calls the translation a guideline, not a guarantee.

Boulders uses this grading at all its gyms. From the gym's own grading guide. Gyms reset and regrade often, and grades vary between setters, so treat this as a guide and check the boards when you visit.
