BlocHaus grades, explained

BlocHaus is an Australian bouldering chain that started in Canberra in 2017 and now runs five gyms: Fyshwick and Mitchell in Canberra, Marrickville and Leichhardt in Sydney's inner west, and Port Melbourne. Its walls are built by Blocz, and boulders are graded by hold colour from blue (easiest) to white (hardest), with neighbouring colours overlapping in difficulty. The gyms allow liquid chalk and chalk balls only.

Bouldering grades

Boulders are graded by hold colour, from blue (easiest) through red, purple, black and yellow to white (hardest), and neighbouring colours overlap on BlocHaus's chart. BlocHaus doesn't publish V-grades, so the ranges below are our estimate: we spread the six colours over the range bouldering gyms usually set (VB to about V10), keeping the order and overlaps on BlocHaus's colour chart and its competition divisions, which pair blue and red, purple and black, and yellow and white.

LevelV-scale≈ Font
BlueVB–V13–5B
RedV0–V34B–6A+
PurpleV2–V45B–6B+
BlackV3–V55C+–6C+
YellowV5–V86C–7B+
White≥ V7≥ 7A+

BlocHaus uses this grading at all its gyms. Estimated by Gear Loop. The gym publishes only the order of its colours, so these ranges are our best guess from its chart and climbers' descriptions. Gyms reset and regrade often, and grades vary between setters, so treat this as a guide and check the boards when you visit.
