Balance Climbing grades, explained

Balance Climbing runs two bouldering-only gyms in Bangkok: Balance Climbing at The Shoppes at Belle on Rama 9 Road and Balance Prime in the Sathorn Prime Building. Both grade on Balance's own Level 0-8 scale, which it says is not a direct translation of the V-scale, and routes are reset twice a week. The two gyms host Bangkok Clutch, a bouldering competition split across both venues (7-8 November 2026).

Bouldering grades

Balance grades problems on its own Level 0-8 scale and stresses it is not a direct translation of the V-scale. The V ranges below are an estimate made by spreading the nine levels evenly over a typical gym range (about VB to V10); the gym publishes only the level order. Its coaching splits beginners (Level 0-4) from advanced climbers (Level 5+).

LevelV-scale≈ Font
Level 0VB–V03–4B+
Level 1V0–V14B–5B
Level 2V1–V25A–5C
Level 3V2–V35B–6A+
Level 4V3–V45C+–6B+
Level 5V4–V56A+–6C+
Level 6V5–V66C–7A
Level 7V6–V86C+–7B+
Level 8Open-ended top level≥ V8≥ 7B

Balance Climbing uses this grading at all its gyms. Estimated by Gear Loop. The gym publishes only the order of its colours, so these ranges are our best guess from its chart and climbers' descriptions. Gyms reset and regrade often, and grades vary between setters, so treat this as a guide and check the boards when you visit.
