Tufas Boulder Lounge grades, explained
Tufas Boulder Lounge is a community-first bouldering gym in South Kensington, Philadelphia, created by local climbers. The 12,700 sq ft building has about 5,500 sq ft of climbing terrain, plus a Kilter Board, a MoonBoard, a spray wall, a full-size Tension Board 2 and a fitness area.
Bouldering grades
Tufas uses Fontainebleau-style colour circuits, each mixing four styles: flowy, technical, powerful and competition. Its route-setting page gives a V-range for every circuit, from green (VB–V0) to black (V8–V10+). V-grades guide the circuits but don't define them, so a climb can sit in a harder circuit than its grade alone suggests.
| Level | V-scale | ≈ Font |
|---|---|---|
| Green | VB–V0 | 3–4B+ |
| Blue | V0–V2 | 4B–5C |
| Purple | V2–V4 | 5B–6B+ |
| Yellow | V4–V6 | 6A+–7A |
| Pink | V6–V8 | 6C+–7B+ |
| BlackListed as V8–V10+; Tufas says it actually spans V8 to V13+ | ≥ V8 | ≥ 7B |
From the gym's own grading guide. Gyms reset and regrade often, and grades vary between setters, so treat this as a guide and check the boards when you visit.
