The Hive Vancouver Heights grades, explained
Hive Heights is The Hive's only rope-climbing gym, at 670 Industrial Avenue, on the same street as Hive Vancouver's bouldering gym. Routes run from 5.5 to 5.13 with top rope, lead and auto belays, and there is a small bouldering area plus campus boards and hangboards. You don't need to know how to belay: you can book a 'Just Climb' session with a belayer.
Bouldering grades
All Hive bouldering gyms use the chain's own Hex grades: each problem has a start tag showing 1 to 7 hexagons, where 1 hex is easiest and 7 hex is hardest. The Hive publishes a V-grade range for each level and says neighbouring levels can overlap.

Rope climbing grades
At Hive Heights, routes run 5.5 to 5.13 on a modified YDS. From 5.10 up, letter grades are replaced by - and +: a '-' grade means roughly a/b and a '+' grade roughly c/d. Grades below 5.10 are plain YDS numbers.
