Monk Bouldergym Amsterdam grades, explained

Monk Amsterdam is a bouldering gym at Aambeeldstraat 26 in Amsterdam-Noord, on the north bank of the IJ. It opened in February 2013 and is part of the Monk chain, which also has gyms in Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Hilversum and Hasselt. Monk lists about 500 m² of climbing walls, around 150 boulders, a training area and a café.

Bouldering grades

Boulders are set in seven colour circuits, each covering a Font range from Orange (easiest) to Mint (hardest). Each boulder also has a number tag, and a poster on the wall gives the exact grade of each numbered boulder. Some easy boulders have extra two-colour 'baby' holds meant for kids only. The ranges below are from FlashPumped (2023) and bouldertour.nl (2018), which agree on every colour but the top of Mint.
