Minimum grades, explained
Minimum (Minimum AG) runs two bouldering halls in Zurich. Flüela, in a brick hall on Flüelastrasse, opened in autumn 2013 and has a bar and restaurant. Leutsch, on Leutschenbachstrasse in the north of the city, opened at the end of 2022. Each has about 1,000 m² of floor space and around 200 boulders, and the walls are reset every week. Boulders are sorted into colour categories with published Font ranges.
Bouldering grades
Boulders are sorted into colour categories, from yellow (easiest) through green, orange, blue, red and white to black. Minimum publishes a Fontainebleau range for each colour on its course-colours and route-setting pages, and the ranges below are copied from there. The site writes them in lower case, e.g. 6a+.
| Level | Font | ≈ V-scale |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow (gelb) | 1A–4C | VB−–V0+ |
| Green (grün) | 5–6A | V1–V3 |
| Orange | 6A+–6B+ | V3–V4 |
| Blue (blau) | 6C–7A | V5–V6 |
| Red (rot) | 7A+–7B+ | V7–V8 |
| White (weiss) | 7C–8A | V9–V11 |
| Black (schwarz)Minimum says black runs up to 'almost impossible' | ≥ 8A+ | ≥ V12 |
Minimum uses this grading at all its gyms. From the gym's own grading guide. Gyms reset and regrade often, and grades vary between setters, so treat this as a guide and check the boards when you visit.
