Climb Central grades, explained

Climb Central is a climbing gym brand owned by Climb Asia, a Singapore climbing-wall company. In Singapore it runs four gyms (The Kallang, Funan, Novena and SAFRA Choa Chu Kang) that combine bouldering with roped walls up to 16 m for top rope, auto-belay and lead; its wall at Kallang Wave Mall has operated since the mall opened in 2014. Gyms under the same name also run in India (New Delhi, Bengaluru and Gurugram) and in Manila. Climbs are tagged with 'pies' whose filled slices show the difficulty band.

Bouldering grades

Climb Central grades with 'pies': a circle split into six slices pinned beside each climb, with more filled slices meaning harder. A photographed Climb Central 'Difficulty Chart' sign gives the V-grade band for each pie, from an empty pie (VB) to a full pie (harder than V8). The chart photo comes from a 2021 article; Coconuts describes the same pies at Climb Central's Bangkok gym, so we take them to apply at every Climb Central gym.

5 slicesV6–V86C+–7B+
6 slices (full pie)Chart says '>V8'≥ V8≥ 7B

Rope climbing grades

Top-rope, auto-belay and lead routes use the same pie tags, and the same chart gives a French grade band for each pie. The chart writes the bands loosely (e.g. '6a/+'), so the table shows each band as the plain grade to the plus grade.

Climb Central doesn't say so outright, but its gyms appear to share this grading. From climbers' descriptions and photos of the gym's grade boards. Gyms reset and regrade often, and grades vary between setters, so treat this as a guide and check the boards when you visit.
